In 2017, Don published Hector Halhead "Steam" Stewart: The History of Stanley Steam Cars in New Zealand and More. It won the 2017 NAAMY Award for Books, given by the National Association of Automobile Museums.

In 2011, Don founded the Virtual Steam Car Museum, a registered 501(c)(3) that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of antique, steam-powered automobiles. Visit the museum.
