Ormond Beach, Florida:
The Stanley Land Speed Record Centennial Celebration

In January 2006, CJ skipped school and traveled with her parents to Ormond Beach, Florida to participate in the Centennial celebration of the Stanley Rocket speed record set by Fred Marriott.   We had a great time meeting many Stanley owners – many of whom Don had been talking to on the phone or emailing.   As relative newcomers (we got our first Stanley the previous May) we were anxious to learn more about steam cars.   We certainly did – everyone we met was very helpful.

The highlight of the trip was standing on the beach, watching cars from many different years drive up and down the beach.  We used up the memory space on our little cameras recording video of the action on the beach.    While we didn’t get a chance to ride a car that day, we were able to ride in a couple of different cars during the rest of the trip.

While in Florida we had the opportunity to visit St. Augustine.   Don and Carolyn learned that they qualified for senior citizen discounts at national parks when they visited the Castillo!   We didn’t think we were that old!!!
